Saturday in San Diego

Last Saturday I decided it was time for a mini road trip! I have been in LA for a year now and had never been to San Diego. Part of it probably has to do with the fact I commute an hour to and from work and on the weekend don’t really feel like being in a car. Snacks in hand, I hit the road early Saturday morning to avoid major traffic, and arrived in San Diego just about 2 hrs. Not a long drive at all!I believe walking(or running) around a town is the best way to explore what an area has to offer. I first headed to old town San Diego and naturally forgot to take pictures.  It wasn’t what I was expecting, but was very cool none the less.  After that I headed to the Seaport village.  This area had a bunch of cool shops, all right along the water.

I then did some exploring for some good coffee shops(coffee addiction is strong) in San Diego.  I ended up at the WestBean coffee roasters in the gas lamp district.  Of the places I visited in San Diego this was my favorite area of town.  Definitely more lively than the other areas I explored.  I plopped down at one of those chairs for a little break, drank my coffee and people watched for a little bit.

Next stop, Balboa park.  There happened to be a huge Christmas festival going on which was super cool!  There were a bunch of different performances going on throughout each building, with a ton of food vendors.   By far, my absolute favorite part was the foods around the world area.  There were about 40 countries represented, with foods specific to that area.  I just wish I could have tried something from every country that was there!  I didn’t necessarily choose the healthiest options, but sometimes you need to just enjoy yourself and delicious food.  I ended up getting pierogies from Poland, empanadas from Colombia, and  baklava from Palestine.  All insanely delicious!

Last, but certainly not least. I went to Mission Beach.  If you couldn’t tell from my twitter, or instagram pages, I love the beach and will go there normally at least once a week.  I just find it super relaxing and needed to catch the sunset before I headed back to LA.

Have you been to San Diego?

Where’s somewhere I should visit near LA?
