36 Hours in San Francisco

Last weekend I spent 36 hours in San Francisco! A couple months back I found a great deal on a plane ticket and figured why not spend a weekend away in San Francisco.  Exploring new cities brings me so much happiness and joy I couldn’t possibly turn down that opportunity. Along with all of the pictures I took, I also recorded a lot of video.  Which you can watch here, or below!

36 Hours in San Francisco- Travel CaliforniaAfter I figured out how to get from the airport to the heart of San Francisco, I headed to the Ferry Building and marketplace. There are a bunch of little shops and eateries in there to enjoy. I started my morning in LA around 4am with a protein bar, so by the time I got to San Francisco around 8am I was starving.  I picked up a cinnamon roll from a bakery in there and walked around to explore.  In the rear of the building, there was a farmers market going on.  Which included so much fresh produce, meats, cheeses etc. to choose from.

36 Hours in San Francisco- Travel CaliforniaAfter my second breakfast and farmers market explorations, I headed down to Pier 39 to check out all the sea lions.  There were so many sea lions, it was crazy.  I had only ever seen one wild one before on a beach in Malibu, so it was really cool to see the interaction between the sea lions.

36 Hours in San Francisco- Travel CaliforniaI have to say, San Francisco is hilly, but actually not as hilly as I expected.  I blame it on the movies and solely showing steep hills everywhere when there’s shots of San Francisco. Numerous times while I was walking that I was thinking how on earth do people run here.  Honestly, they must have some amazing muscles from running up and down these hills all the time!

36 Hours in San Francisco- Travel CaliforniaLombard Street! They say it’s the “Most crooked street in the world” but word on the street is that it’s actually number two on that list.  None the less, it was a beautiful brick street!

36 Hours in San Francisco- Travel CaliforniaOh hey San Francisco! Just testing out my selfie stick skills for my future travels. I looked like the biggest tourist.  But hey, you gotta do what ya gotta do when traveling alone!

36 Hours in San Francisco- Travel CaliforniaMy favorite way to explore new cities is by walking everywhere.  It gives you a better feel of what each neighborhood is about.  I must say though, everything in San Francisco looks a lot closer than it actually is. This is the Full House House! The house was about 2.5 miles away from where I was at that point so it wasn’t a bad walk.  The mistake came when I wore semi new shoes to walk around in all weekend that happened to be a .5 size too small.  Those were actually the shoes I was going to be wearing to Europe, so I am really glad I tested them out beforehand because I needed to redo that plan for sure! This house ended up being a lot smaller than I expected but really cool to see in person!

36 Hours in San Francisco- Travel CaliforniaIt was a fairly clear day on Saturday with beautiful blue skies.  I went up to Twin Peaks and was able to see the most incredible view of the city!  It was breathtaking!

36 Hours in San Francisco- Travel CaliforniaIt was quite windy at twine peaks so I was pretty chilly after that.  I decided to head over to Marufuku Ramen to get a nice steaming bowl of ramen! Being someone who will try almost any food out there, I somehow had never tried real ramen before. Shocking, I know! I have majorly been missing out on this deliciousness!  Before I left for San Francisco I did a little research of some restaurants to go to and according to a lot of online reviews,  Marufuku is the best ramen in San Francisco.  I figured why not have the best for my first time, it certainly did not disappoint. Advice though, get there before 5! I arrived there a minute before 5 and was first on the wait list after that dozens of people started showing up.

36 Hours in San Francisco- Travel CaliforniaIf you want an incredible sunset view and some drinks, head to The View Lounge in the Marriott. The views are incredible and the drinks are delicious!  Since I travel alone often I am used to eating dinner alone and by now it doesn’t bother me.  This was the first time I had gone out for drinks alone. I desperately wanted to see this view so I got over that minor fear and went, and it was definitely worth it!

I spent a good part of Sunday exploring the Golden Gate Bridge.  It was a perfectly clear day and the view was incredible! I decided to walk across the whole thing to really take in the entirety of the bridge which brought even better views! right near the bridge there is a parrk, running and biking paths. I t was great to see so many families out and about exercising together and enjoying picnics together.  Sounds like a wonderful way to spend a Sunday to me!

Accommodations:

I don’t have any pictures, but on Saturday night I stayed in the Hi Hostel Downtown San Francisco.  If you’re traveling alone or on a budget I highly recommend it.  It was in good location, the people were very nice,  and all the facilities were great and very clean.  It gave me a little bit of the hostel taste before I head to Europe soon!

Where should I travel to next?

What’s your favorite part of San Francisco?
