25 Things I Learned in 25 Years

Today is my 25th Birthday.  Boy am I  feeling old!

Here are 25 things I have learned in 25 years.

1. Sometimes (more often than you want) life will not go in the direction you wanted it to. No matter how hard you studied, how many hours of work you put in, how much you love someone, life will throw you  a curve ball.  Maybe 2 or 3 at a time. It’s how you react to those that make you who you are. Embrace it.

2. Life is short.  Not everyone is guaranteed tomorrow so live your life and cherish every moment and experience!

3. Some friends aren’t meant to be in your life forever.  People grow and change over time.  Sometimes friendships just run their course.  Cherish those long term friendships that last and learn from those that didn’t.

4. Guys  and dating are confusing. I have nothing else to say here, just, confusing. You’ll probably date the wrong guy a time or two.  Learn from it.

5. Not all love is forever.  Sometimes relationships run their course.  Accept it.

6. Don’t take life too seriously.  But really. Relax and enjoy.

7. Who cares if you don’t fit society’s “norms.” I constantly get asked why I don’t have a boyfriend at the moment, as if something was wrong with me.  I don’t know about you but i’m having a pretty awesome time being single.  I’m enjoying life, figuring out where I want my life to go, and I don’t have to take anyone into account but myself.  I’m 25 and selfish. Deal with it! I want to create my own life. Heck I only get one of them!

8. Regretting anything is pointless. Learn from your mistake and move on.

9. There is WAY more to life than your job.  Don’t spend all your time working and not enough time enjoying your life!

10.  Trust actions not words.  Anyone can say words, but pay attention to the people that follow through with what they say.

11.  Never rely on anyone but yourself  for happiness. Only you can truly make yourself happy.

12. Never compare your life to anyone else’s.  Your journey through life may completely different than someone else’s.  Embrace your own journey.

13. Do things that terrify you! I am not saying illegal things.  But conquer your fears.  Push yourself out of your comfort zone.  It’s thrilling!

14. Now is the new “one day.”  You want to run a marathon? do it! you want to backpack Europe? Go now! Make things happen.  Everyone always says one day i’ll do this, one day i’ll do that.  If it’s possible why not do it now! Go for it! There’s no time like the present!

15. Don’t focus too much on the past or the future.  I have gone insane stressing about things that have already happened, along with things that may, or may not happen in the future.  It’s waisted anxiety.

16.  A positive mindset can change everything.  You can accomplish so much more of what you want to if you do so.

17. Tell people how you feel.  You like someone? Tell them. What’s the worst that could happen? You get rejected?  Not everyone in life will like you. Accept that fact.

18.  Life is Beautiful.  There’s nothing more special than actually taking in the wind blowing, the clouds blowing with the wind, the birds chirping.

19. Your friends are way more important than any guy you date.  But really, hang out with them more than him.  They will always have your back.

20. College is not the best time of your life. And if it is, change that.  Every new day should be better.

21. Do things that are out of your comfort zone.  It’s how you grow.

22. Enjoy time with your family.  Family is everything.

23. Don’t care what other people think.  No one else opinion should matter to you but your own.  If you like your hair purple, you rock that purple hair! Don’t let anyone else opinion matter.

24. Consider giving people second chances, but not thirds.  No one should mess up for a second time if they cherish your time.

25.  It’s okay to not be okay.  Sometimes you will feel down. Ask for help. You don’t have to be okay, every minute of every day.

Learning not all friends are meant to be in your life forever is such a hard, but important lesson as you get older. It doesn’t make it easier, but it does make letting go feel a little bit better!
